The 5 Freedoms are a guide which is part of the Animal Welfare Act 2007.
The welfare of an animal includes its physical and mental state. It is considered that good animal welfare maintains health of the animal but also allows for natural behaviour, so making it happier.
Any animal kept by humans, must at least, be protected from unnecessary suffering.
These freedoms give a framework to guide owners. They are designed to safeguard animals within the UK and improve welfare and animal husbandry.
